The Vancouver Canucks have been a staple in the city since they were founded as an NHL expansion team in 1970. The Canucks originally played at the Pacific Coliseum in Hastings Park until 1995, when the team moved to Rogers Arena (then called General Motors Place).
The NHL regular season runs from October through April, with the number of games increasing from 82 to 84 in the 2026-27 campaign. As members of the NHL’s Western Conference, the Canucks face teams from across North America during the season, including major rivals and top franchises from both the Western and Eastern Conferences.
Home games are held at Rogers Arena. They typically begin in the evening, although weekend games sometimes feature afternoon or early evening start times. Located at 800 Griffiths Way, the venue is close to many restaurants, pubs, and entertainment venues. During the season, Canucks games are always a popular part of a full evening out in downtown Vancouver.
The arena offers food and beverage options, merchandise shops, and a lively atmosphere both before and after games. Many nearby sports bars and restaurants also show away games throughout the season, allowing fans to follow the team even when the Canucks are on the road. For those watching from home, all but a select few Canucks games are broadcast by Sportsnet, with the remainder on Amazon Prime.

Ticket prices for Canucks games generally start at around $75 or more for upper-level seating, while premium lower-bowl seats and high-demand matchups can cost several hundred dollars.
Games against fellow Canadian teams such as the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens are usually among the most popular and expensive games of the season. Fans can also enjoy games against legendary NHL franchises like the Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks.
Season tickets for the Canucks start at over $2,750, with the best seats going for more than $7,000. About the Canucks
The history of professional hockey in Vancouver dates back well over a century, to the founding of the Vancouver Millionaires in 1911. The Millionaires played for 15 seasons, primarily in the Pacific Coast Hockey Association where they were league champions six times and won the 1915 Stanley Cup against the Ottawa Senators, champions of the National Hockey Association.
After the Millionaires (then known as the Maroons) folded in 1926, there would be no more major league hockey in Vancouver until 1970. There were minor league teams, however, including the original version of the Vancouver Canucks who played in the Western Hockey League (not the same as the modern-day major junior league of the same name) for 25 years beginning in 1945.
The minor league Canucks played in the PNE Forum until the late 60s, when they moved into the much larger Pacific Coliseum, specifically constructed with the goal of being awarded an NHL expansion team. That came to fruition with the Canucks becoming the third Canadian team in the NHL (after Montreal and Toronto) in the 1970-71 season.
Since their NHL debut the Canucks have won their division 11 times, earned the President’s Trophy for best regular season record twice, and advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals three times, most recently in 2011. The Canucks and the Buffalo Sabres (who joined the league in the same year) are the two oldest NHL franchises to have never won the Stanley Cup.

Vancouver has several other hockey teams for fans to watch in addition to the Canucks, including the Vancouver Goldeneyes who joined the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) in 2025. They play at the Pacific Coliseum (where the Canucks used to play) and had one of the best home atmospheres in the PWHL in their inaugural season!
There are two other notable teams in the Lower Mainland. The Vancouver Giants major junior team play in the Western Hockey League with their home games at the Langley Events Centre. The Abbotsford Canucks are the official minor league affiliate team of the Vancouver Canucks and play at the Rogers Forum. Abbotsford won the American Hockey League championship in 2024-25!
